Lately I’ve been on a collaborative binge with good friend Ryan Anzures and had a chance to work on the videos for some of his tracks.

Linear version of a 3 Channel Installation
by Bo Lee
Musical Score by Ryan Anzures
30 sec segments looped for the duration of the track.
“Death by a 1000 frames” is meant to be shown as a 3 channel installation but I’ve also created a more linear version where the three parts are played sequentially. For me, this piece represents a stage in my career where I not only approach a piece of work visually but also in the mechanics of how it came to be.
1000 frames derives from the 30 second segment and within the 30 seconds lie 900 frames; I inter-grate text for half of those frames so its basically 450 frames of images per channel and with 3 channels, there are 1350 images that I had to obtain, mostly through the Internet and so the process of getting these images became part of the art. The images started to numb me, the images of products not so much, but the porn material, which I started off by taking pleasure in seeking, became almost repulsive towards the end of the search. Vice versa, the images of death and war disgusted me in the early stages but gradually I became more desensitized to it.
I wanted to portray the hatred of ourselves which eventually leads to the hatred of humanity within our society. We have a lust for these products so we buy, we have a lust for each other, so we fuck, and we have a greed for power so we kill.
The piece is meant for us to challenge the notion of consumption, what is excess and why we crave some of things that we crave?
Babel Gum, an online content provider much like HULU.com has collaborated with Perpetual Art Machine’s Lee Wells to bring you NEW VIDEO ART, a curated look into the very best of the video art scene, which I am very pleased to be a part of. Please check out everyone’s work.
“Artist as a Commodity” is a reflection on the current art market and the dehumanizing process of acquiring art. Art has “evolved” from craft to a culture stimulant to investment where we must question the reason we as artist make art. Is art necessary in today’s world and if so, has the meaning and definition changed?
It has become more necessary to promote the artist and to sell the artist more so, than the art itself. Where is the market headed? And should a market even exist?
